Advocating to End Robocalls

Advocating to End Robocalls

We support legislation to eliminate robocalls as a permissible form of contact lens prescription verification, with an eye toward patient safety.

An accurate and clear prescription verification process is essential to ensure patients receive the exact contact lenses prescribed by their eye care provider. Unfortunately, the use of robocalls can contribute to substitution of a non-prescribed brand or manufacturer of lenses. While the FTC Contact Lens Rule final rule added additional requirements to how robocalls are made, it ultimately did not close the prescription verification “loophole” by eliminating robocalls, meaning patient eye health and safety can still be jeopardized by their use.

That’s why Johnson & Johnson Vision supported the introduction of the Contact Lens Prescription Verification Modernization Act in the House of Representatives and in the U.S. Senate. This bill would eliminate robocalls as a permissible form of verification for sellers, freeing up eye care professionals’ phone lines and promoting a better “paper trail” for verification to encourage a more error-free prescription fulfillment process – all for the health and safety of patients.
